An Invitation and A Celebration
2018, Area 405, Baltimore Maryland
In this piece, I considered the differences between false promises and those that are real. Using both plaster cast pastries and an edible cake, I first sought to satisfy my desire in vain. The real victory comes through cutting into the home-made cake, and then sharing it with those around me after tasting how sweet it is.
Cake is often used in celebration, in memory of, recognition of a significant event, or in acknowledgement of an achievement. Treats, however, have become such a ubiquitous commodity, that they lose the meaning of the word “treat”.
